About the Centre for Sustainable Living

The Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living (MCSL, the Centre) is a showcase for sustainable homes and gardens, with the goal of promoting sustainable living. The unique facility is entirely self-sufficient. It generates its own power, recycles and reuses all rain and waste water, and manages all organic waste on site. The Centre is guaranteed to impress. The facility also boasts a large garden demonstrating different a wide array of sustainable gardening principles, proudly maintained by volunteers. At MCSL, we offer:

Information Centre

The Centre provides a range of information from local sustainable businesses and traders, fact sheets on sustainable living practices including building sustainable homes, organic gardening, renewable energy, water efficiency and biodiversity. The Centre also sells fresh honey from the Macarthur Bee Keepers plus artisan jams and sauces.

School Programs
MCSL offers tours and a sustainable experince to students of all ages (Child Care Centres,Years K-12, Stages 1 to 6, plus tertiary students). Students can experience first hand how we can all help society become more sustainable in both our built and the natural environment.  Your introduction to sustainability starts when you are dropped off at the Centre's car park - let us open your eyes to the many features this seemingly barren asphalt area has hidden from view. Then, as you walk along the  Path to Sustainability you'll feel the peace and tranquillity that being surrounded by nature brings.  We can tailor tours and workshops to address any curriculum need and can help you plan a sustainability audit for your own home and school. Let us teach you some good gardening and healthy cooking tips from the garden to table, perhaps you can help us out with a few things too! Generally tours last one and a half hours and cost $6 per student and a combination tour and workshops ranges from $15-$20 per student. Bookings are essential. Please call the Centre for more information 46479828 or email info@mcsl.org.au for more detailed information.
